FOREIGN POLICY

ld Rectoryland fully recognises the declarative nature of statehood under international law, and thus regards recognition as an optional, yet useful, means of communication between nations. Furthermore, Old Rectoryland does not recognise the legitimacy of states without physical territory; internet and imaginary nations, nations whose 'territory' is not the property of the claimant or whose 'territory' is confined to the second floor or above, or is less than an acre in area, will not be acknowledged, as they harm our nation's claim to statehood.

If your state would like to commit to formal communication with Old Rectoryland, we currently operate the following relationship positions with other nations (in order of closeness):

  • Alliance: A full agreement to guard and protect each other's nations. Rare, except in times of war.
  • Ambassadorial Treaty: An agreement to exchange ambassadors with another nation, and to host embassies.
  • Trade Agreement: An agreement to facilitate trade between nations.
  • Co-recognition pact: An agreement between states to recognise one-another.
  • Recognition: A condition wherein Old Rectoryland recognises another state but the favour is not returned.

Contact the Foreign Minister or the King for further details.

CONTROVERSY

Controversially, Old Rectoryland does not recognise the Chinese claim to Taiwan, nor the French claim to Brittany, nor the United Kingdom's claim to Cornwall or Wales. Old Rectoryland does not recognise the current governments of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran, or of Robert Gabriel Mugabe in Zimbabwe, as legitimate.

STATES OF WAR

An official State of Suspicion exists between Old Rectoryland and the State of the Vatican City. Relations with the United Micronations (a supranational organisation of which Old Rectoryland is nominally a member) have recently become strained; Old Rectoryland withdrew its ambassador from the UM in January of 2009.

CORECOGNITION PACTS

Old Rectoryland recognises the legitimate claims to statehood of The Sovereign Kingdom of Kemetia and The Principality of Ashbourton and Commonwealths.
