GEOGRAPHY

ld Rectoryland is a land-locked nation, an enclave surrounded by English countryside. Similar situations to this exist elsewhere: for instance the Vatican City, San Marino, and Lesotho are just three more examples of sovereign states 'enclaved' within other nations.

This results in an interesting situation, as Old Rectoryland is technically British, while not being in any way connected to the United Kingdom. The British Isles encompass the British Islands, Old Rectoryland, and the Republic of Ireland. The British Islands encompass Great Britain, the Channel Islands, Northern Ireland, and the Isle of Mann. One might therefore, if the mood struck you, call the part of the island in which Old Rectoryland is located 'Lesser Britain'.

Although the Old Rectorian Royal Family claim rightful rulership over the whole of the area historically known as Lindsey, in practice only a comparatively small land area has been liberated from the Government of the United Kingdom. What there is of Old Rectoryland's home territory grows constantly, as more land is annexed by the Expeditionary Forces, and the country has an extensive Empire of Colonies all over the world; however its home territory is only about 20-30 acres and the entire Empire consists of only about 1 537.33432 acres (2.968 square miles/7.686 square Km), though this is larger than the smallest country in the world, Vatican City.

This, and the small population of only a few thousand people (again, larger than the Vatican), mean Old Rectoryland is often classified as a micronation. Here are some basic definitions accepted by most micronations.

(1) - taken from the United Nations

(2) - taken from the 1933 Montevideo Convention on the Rights and Duties of States, Article 1

(3) - United Micronations dogma
